RWE and Dubai Electricity and Water Authority sign deal for renewable energy innovation
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) and Germany utility RWE Energy Group have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in innovation of renewable energy research and development (R&D).
Under the MoU, both the companies will enhance co-operation in innovation, research and development in energy and smart grids, scientific research and sustainable development projects.
The MoU is a part of Dewa's effort to contribute to the Smart Dubai initiative, which was launched by UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
The initiative is intended to make Dubai the smartest city by advancing the implementation of smart initiatives.
DEWA CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer said: "DEWA is committed to enhancing cooperation with local and international government and private organizations to improve its services for customers, and develop its operations to the highest levels of availability, reliability, and efficiency."
Under the terms of the MoU, RWE and Dewa will enhance cooperation and exchange experiences, knowledge, and research in renewable energy, and technical, economic, and environmental analysis of alternative energy scenarios.
The team will also work on testing of smart grid measures, energy storing and efficiency, improved reliability of solar cells, and value-added products and services for smart grids and cooperation in academic and scientific programs.
Dewa said that the MoU also supports its strategy to promote and establish innovation in global energy market.
RWE Consulting CEO Dr Klaus Grellmann said: "We look forward to working with DEWA in solar and other alternative and renewable sources of energy.
"We intend to set an innovative role model in the region for the sustainable development and ease of connecting renewable energy sources with existing electricity grids.
"We are confident that DEWA's excellent initiatives combined with RWE's latest innovations and technologies will achieve this ambitious goal."
