SwissInso Expands R&D Capabilities In Partnership With Leso

Published: 15-Mar-2010

SwissInso, a company which utilizes its intellectual property assets to provide solar energy offerings, has expanded its research and development (R&D) capabilities in partnership with Leso, the solar applied research laboratory of EPFL, the Ecole Polytechnique Federale in Lausanne Switzerland.

Leso is completing the installation of a new and laboratory, including $2m worth of front-line technology designed for plasma-assisted deposition of nanocomposite solar coatings, thin-film analysis and optical characterization.

This setup will be used for development and pilot production of new surface treatments and colors of SwissInso’s opaque solar thermal panels. In conjunction with this implementation, two new positions at Leso have been financed by SwissInso to run this nanotechnology research, a Postdoctoral scientist and a doctorate student.

Yves Ducommun, CEO of SwissInso, said: ''Due to this expansion of our R&D capabilities, we will be able to develop more leading-edge coatings and produce custom-designed colors in a more timely manner, thus responding very quickly and precisely to architectural requests for aesthetical curtain wall solar collecting solutions.''

Redundancy in Control Room Visualisation

In general control rooms are operated 24/7 and 365 days a year. In such areas critical data and information is controlled by several operators, working in different shifts. The data is visualised on video walls. Therefore the equipment used in these applications has to have an excellent image quality and should be extremely reliable. In order to achieve a reliable continuous operation a certain redundancy is required.
