Tata BP Solar Manufactures Equipment To Produce 100 MW Of Power

Tata BP Solar India Limited (Tata BP Solar), a joint venture between Tata Power Company Limited and BP Solar, has produced equipment to generate over 100 megawatt (MW) of power. Tata BP Solar exports around 70% of its products to the European and the US markets. The company has three units in Bangalore. The company has spent around $100 million (about INR5 billion) in 2008-09 for manufacturing solar cells and panels.
Tata BP Solar has manufactured solar cells and modules to support 105 MW energy so far, a source said.
Tata BP Solar is planning to work with realty developers such as DLF and Unitech to supply its services for their townships.
It is also looking forward to tap the prospective solar power market in the National Capital Region and is planning a foray into other regions of renewable energy.
The National Solar Mission programme of the government plans at establishing research industry partnerships, providing tariff structures and tax breaks for promoting competitiveness in the solar energy sector.
